GPB Sports is in the basketball state of mind, getting prepped and ready for next week’s GHSA girls and boys state basketball championships. We'll spend three days in the midst of "Macon Madness", live from the coliseum for close to 31 hours of wall-to-wall coverage...capturing every shot, rebound, and basket. At the start of the year, over 800 teams held a dream of making it to the final dance on March 5, 6, and 7. But this week, only 28 teams: 14 girls squads, and 14 boys squads will battle it out for seven state titles. As the field narrows, a number of intriguing story lines capture our attention...which team will replace Tift County as top dog in the boys class 6A title match? Can Miller Grove win an incredible seventh straight state championship? Coach Sharman White’s team is loaded with talent as we're used to seeing it, and the Wolverines definitely know how to win. But right now, seven other teams are in the hunt and working hard at snapping Miller Grove’s championship streak in Class 5A. On the girls' side, two of the state’s top female players and their teams are still alive and in the running. Asia Durr of St. Pius can do it all and it's nothing short of a ball of fun to watch she and her Lady Golden Lions go for a third straight state title. In Class 6A, Te’a Cooper of McEachern High School has made a statement of her own as well, working to help her team win back-to-back titles. But the storylines don't stop there....plenty of other teams are still in the hunt and we'll know which ones advance to Macon this Saturday night. So join GPB Sports March 5-7 for the GHSA Girls and Boys Basketball State Championships. We're on the air Thursday, 3pm through midnight, Friday 3pm til midnight, and Saturday, we tip off the action with the adaptive sports wheelchair game at 9:30. That evening, the final champion will don their crowns sometime around midnight. So don’t miss a basket, block out, or slam dunk. It’s all coming your way next week, only on the great GPB!
