Now is the time…
For a lot of folks in South Georgia, it doesn’t get any heavier than what happens in Week 7. Lowndes travels to Colquitt, Lee County travels to Tifton, Valdosta travels to Colquitt and it is going to be like this for the next month, nonstop. Six teams in some of the hottest and heaviest environments around: Valdosta, Tifton, Moultrie, Leesburg, and Kingsland. And if it’s going to be like it was in Week 1, the rest of the schedule is going to be a blast to cover and recap as the toughest region in the state beats each other up heading to the playoffs.

Jake Wallace has the look at all the Region 1 match-ups from week one as well as action with Thomasville and Fitzgerald and everything else down south. And, believe me, there was a LOT to talk about down south this week.

On the coast, the lead was the matchup of two semifinals squads in Wayne County and Benedictine. The Cadets and Jackets are looking to make another deep run toward a state title. But, first things first, they have to get past each other.

In the Augusta area, I think we may have jinxed Jones County head coach Justin Rogers. We visited with him in Gray to talk about the great start his Greyhounds have had and, for the second time this season they came up and bit somebody: first Warner Robins and now Jones County.

In Central Georgia, there have been a few schools that have transferred in from the GISA into the GHSA- and, in their new versions, they got to continue their rivalry for the first time in a long time. Ben was in khakis and Frank was in shorts for Stratford and FPD.

And that was just a small sample of what went down last week. Okay, y’all… here’s my question for you this week:
What has surprised you, either in print or in person, about this year so far? Let me know, right here on this very page.

Blatant promo alert…This week, it’s two great teams in 6A going at it… led by two great quarterbacks. McEachern and Bailey Hockman going to The Reservation to take on North Cobb and Auburn commit Tyler Queen. And if the game is anything like last year, we’re all in for a treat. The All-Access Pass is on at 7:00 with kickoff a little after 7:30- either on GPB, gpb.org, or the GPB Sports app. And, much like we tell Mark every week--the sports app is free and gives you all the info you need every week about what’s going on in high school sports.

Join Mark, Claire, Grace, Matt, Larry, and moi for everything at North Cobb and be sure to join us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for all the stuff that we bring you every week here on GPB. Play it safe, everyone… I’ll see you at the stadium.
