A lot of people these days think that offenses and the numbers they put up can be downright staggering…

If you look at what Peyton Manning is doing in the NFL (16 TD’s, no INT), and what a team like Oregon is doing in the NCAA, you see just how the game is going from one of those A-11 formations, to five wides, and anything and everything in between…

There was even a game in Wisconsin this weekend that ended 84-82. I don’t know if that says more about the offenses or the defenses those two teams trotted out, but high scores are now more the norm than the exception. And here in Georgia, I’ll give you two more examples…

North Oconee High’s Kawon Bryant ran for 8 TD’s and 372 yards on 33 carries in their 62-27 win over Jackson County. North Oconee actually trailed 27-26 with 2:52 left in the third quarter and scored the final 36 points.

Elijah Ironside threw for seven TD passes for Hillgrove in their 63-28 win over Campbell. He went 24-for-36 for 395 yards, and Omar Black caught four of the TD’s. Hillgrove's 63 points are a school record..

Just so you know….

Bryant’s scores tie him for second all-time for rushing TD’s in a game…

10 - Kenneth Moore, Calhoun (1948)
8 - Don Callaway, Miller County (1999)
8 - Thomas Flowers, Pebblebrook (2001)

And Ironside’s 7 tie him for 4th…for TD passes in a game…

9 - Ed Staten, North Whitfield (1962)
8 - Jeremy Privett, Charlton County (2003)
8 - Hutson Mason, Lassiter (2009)
7 - Elijah Ironside, Hillgrove (2013)
7 - Jeremy Privett, Charlton County (2003)
7 - Hutson Mason, Lassiter (2009)
7 - Deshaun Watson, Gainesville (2012)

Thanks, as always, to Tood and Chip over at the GHSF Daily for those numbers…
Staggering stuff nonetheless…

Okay…

Region 1-6A got started last Friday… and there was one surprise… Lowndes getting pounded by Colquitt at Martin Stadium. Camden held on to beat Valdosta in Kingsland and Tift came from behind to beat Coffee. They get to do it all over again this weekend…

Here’s the Frenzy up close and personal…

In central Georgia, Warner Robins and Northside are rolling toward their November 1st date at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in the International City. But there’s someone else that’s getting a little love these days up in Forsyth…

Mary Persons is a top ten team in the GPB Poll in Quad-A, and they rolled over Howard. The Bulldogs held Howard to 65 yards in total offense and four first downs. Dee High rushed for 103 and scored four touchdowns.

You’ll see most of them below…

Frank, Ben, and Big Marvin have the highlights…

The aforementioned Warner Robins bunch…??? They’re at the 3:50 mark here in segment one of “OFL Friday Night” followed by the Statesboro highlights as head coach Steve Pennington is quietly making noise once again…

Here in the metro, the top-ranked teams are still doing their thing across the board- McEachern and North Gwinnett in 6A, Tucker and Stephenson (as seen on GPB) in 5A, Sandy Creek and Carrollton in quad-A as they head toward the game of the year in that classification (and, probably, a rematch in the state title game), Buford and Cartersville in triple-A, Lovett and GAC in double-A, and ELCA and Landmark in single-A.

What, dear reader, are you paying attention to as we hit region play…???

Let me know either on our Facebook page at GPB Sports, our Twitter account @GPBsports, commenting on the bottom of the page, or however you’d like to get in touch with us… just stay in touch as we get closer to the playoffs…

This week on “Football Fridays in Georgia,” it’s two Cobb County teams separated by 6 miles- Lassiter and Walton in Raider Valley…

“All-Access Pass” starts at 7 with kickoff at 7:38 or so on GPB. So join Mark, Kat, Claire, Grace, Trey, Kelin, and moi for another round of rivalries and region play…

Have fun this weekend with your teams and remember, the fancy player below all these words has the “Football Fridays” podcast with Archer head coach Andy Dyer and The Coastal Source’s Frank Sulkowski talking everything football in their necks of the woods…

Play it safe, everyone… I’ll see you next time…
