Last December at the Georgia Dome, I was fortunate to watch as Deshaun Watson of Gainesville High School put on a quarterback clinic in the Red Elephants win over Ware County in the GHSA football finals. It is a given that heading into this 2013 prep season, that Watson is considered by many to be the top Quarterback in this state. However, there are several other top signal-callers in every corner of Georgia this year, and they now have the opportunity to become as well known as Watson.

Two of the best at the quarterback position reside in the coastal and southern portion of the state. One in Richmond Hill, and the other in Blackshear. Both of these quarterbacks have the ability to lead their teams to the state finals this December, but it's a long season and there are many hurdles to clear before that happens.

Tyler Harris, a 6'3", 220-pound Pierce County Bear, returns to try lead his team to yet another 1-AAA title. Harris passed for over 2500 yards and 29 touchdowns a year ago for Coach Sean Pender, and is headed to SMU to play for June Jones next year. His 4.0 GPA lets one know that he's as adept in the classroom as he is on the football field. He'll study sports medicine when he joins the Mustangs next year.

Nick Fitzgerald of the Region 1-AAAAA Richmond Hill Wildcats , at 6'5" and 215-pounds, is not as well-known as many quarterbacks in the state, but he will be very soon. He shared time a year ago with Dominique Allen, who's now at the Air Force Academy. Fitzgerald runs the 2013 'Cats no huddle offense to perfection according to his coach L.M Guy, and will graduate early in January with a 3.8 GPA. He's already committed to Mississippi State, and will join the Dogs in Starkville early next year.

These are just two of the top quarterbacks from the southern portion of the state. Here in Georgia...there are many more!

Stay tuned...
