Championship Weekend is upon us. What a 17 hour period of football we are going to have on the #GREAT GPB. We kick things off with the 2A Championship game between Buford and Calhoun. My buddies Jon Nelson and Mark Harmon say about version 4.0 there no secrets between the Wolves and Yellow Jackets. Four straight years now these have battled for the Class 2A Crown. The main storyline will be can Buford succeed in their Drive for 5? The Wolves have the state's longest winning streak at 27 games. Calhoun will be seeking its first state title in 59 years.

In Friday's nightcap Lovejoy faces Tucker. Coach Franklin Stephens and the Tigers can win its first state since 2008 and their second overall. The hope to become the 17th team from DeKalb County to win a state championship. Lovejoy will be the first Clayton County school to play in a state championship game since Mount Zion played in 1999. Lovejoy coach Al Hughes has worked as a coach in Clayton County for 35 years. He has never been part of a championship game.

To Saturday:
Class A State Championship game, Savannah Christian (14-0) Landmark Christian (12-2)- Savannah Christian is trying to become the first Savannah school to win a GHSA championship since 1969. Landmark Christian is the fourth 4th seed to reach a state final since 1996. The winner of the game becomes the 15th private school team to win a Georgia High School Association football championship.

Class 3A State Championship game. Peach County (13-1) vs Burke County (13-1)-This could be the best matchup of the 5. Peach County will be trying to win its 4th state title in seven years. Burke County needs only 45 points to set the state record for points in a season.

Class 5A State championship Game, Grayson (14-0) vs. Walton (14-0)- It is one of the 3 games that features a battle of the undefeated, and the 9th time that two undefeated, untied teams have played for the championship in the highest classification. Walton can become the first Cobb County team since Harrison in 2000 to play in a championship game. The game will feature Walton's talented tailback Tyren Jones. Jones has rushed for over 22-hundred yards. He will go up against a Grayson Rams defense led by defensive end Robert Nkemdiche that has allowed opponents under 37 yards rushing all year.

Speaking of the Rams, we take you back to their exciting 35-31 win over Colquitt County to advance to the 5A title game. Grayson Community Stadium & Britt-Moody Field was rockin as the Rams advanced to their first state championship game. The city of Loganville is no longer in the state of Georgia but is in the state of Euphoria. The GPB Sports Blog was able to catch up with Marcus Lindquist, who caught the winning touchdown from QB Nick Schuessler, Head Coach Mickey Conn, and RB/LB Wayne Gallman after the game to get their thoughts.

A reminder to join GPB's exclusive coverage of championship week starting with the pre-game show led by Mark Harmon, Jon Nelson, Chrissy Warrilow, Jackie Britttain, Lindsey Thiry, Niki Noto and our outstanding crew. We get things kicked off with the pre-game starting at 4PM on Friday Dec. 9 and runs through Dec.10. It should be a GREAT two nights.
