WEEK SIX

Another great game on the world wide web this week. At www.gpb.org/sports
4-1 North Gwinnett travels to Norcross to battle the unbeaten and 5-0
Blue Devils. We have had both these teams on GPB TV this year, North Gwinnett
at the Corky Kell Classic, and a couple of weeks ago we televised the Norcross
win over Mill Creek. Both these teams have high octane offenses that can really
light up a scoreboard. Norcross is led by QB Joseph Wilbur and wide receiver Jason
Croom, along with a terrific running back in Alvin Kamara who is just a junior
and destined for big things.

The Bulldogs also have a fine QB in Scott Hosch and a talented tandem of running
backs in Joe Jones and Donnie Miles. North Gwinnett coach Bob Sphire told me that
Norcross is just outstanding with a stingy defense and alot of weapons on offense.
Looks like another great game on the web with pregame coverage kicking off at 7pm.

Also some final thoughts about last weeks web game, a thrilling 20-19 overtime win
by Ringgold over Heritage. I visited Ringgold shortly after the tornado hit
and was shocked by the destruction to the community. I talked with Ringgold coach
Robert Akins and asked him if he thought a winning football season would have a
healing effect and give the town something to rally around. He told me he hoped
that would happen. Well, it has. The Tigers are 4-1, and have a great shot at
making the playoffs. With all the distractions of real life blitzing in
The Tigers have rolled up their shirt sleaves and shoulder pads and put in the hard work,
and its paying off.

This is what makes high school football in Georgia so great.
