The Spanish students at Atlanta’s Centennial Academy excelled on the National Spanish Examinations (NSE) and in the Foreign Language Association of Georgia (FLAG) Spoken Language Contest.

The National Spanish Examinations are standardized assessment tools for students in grades 6-12. Teachers choose to administer these exams in order to measure their students’ performance levels and achievements in Spanish. The NSE are also contests in which students receive Gold, Silver, or Bronze recognition based on their test scores. Chapter prizes and honorable mentions are presented as well.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 160,000 students participating in 2016,” says Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the NSE.

Centennial’s students scored exceptionally well on the exam and were recognized in many of these prestigious categories. Out of the forty-one students that participated, three placed in the Silver category, three in Bronze, and twenty received honorable mentions. In addition, some were recognized for scoring in the top ten of the Georgia Chapter of NSE.

The accolades for these outstanding students did not stop there. In April, five of Centennial’s fifth graders participated in FLAG’s Spoken Language Contest. During this competition, students from across the state demonstrated their ability to communicate in a particular language. They were judged on comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary, overall competency in grammar/syntax, fluency, and more. Contestants were then rated as superior, excellent, or good. All of the school’s fifth graders spoke eloquently and received superior ratings.

Congratulations to these young scholars for their hard work and success. Job well done. Click here to read more information about Centennial’s exceptional Spanish pupils.
