On Friday, May 8, students at Fulton County Schools’ Feldwood Elementary will receive a special, interactive assembly that will ignite students’ passion in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Discovery Education’s science guru Patti Duncan will lead 400 students through an interactive, spellbinding assembly, underscoring the significant role science plays in our daily lives. Special guest Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, astrophysicist and star of Science Channel’s Outrageous Acts of Science, will also speak to attendees about the importance of STEM education. In addition to the assembly, Feldwood Elementary will receive a one-year, customized STEM education program to support teachers and engage students in the power of STEM through Science Channel and Discovery Education.

The event is being presented by Science Channel and Discovery Education, in partnership with The Planetary Society, Girls Inc. and Maker Ed, as part of the Support Our Science (S.O.S.) initiative, an ongoing effort to ignite students’ curiosity while providing educators with the means to build skills and knowledge in STEM. Through S.O.S, another lucky elementary or middle school will be awarded an interactive STEM-themed assembly through a nationwide sweepstakes that kicks off May 1, 2015. Parents, teachers, and community members can enter a school of their choice and learn more about S.O.S. by visiting www.supportourscience.com.
