Tomatoes deliver minerals, vitamins and antioxidants that keep us healthy, plus flavor that keeps our taste buds happy. It is no wonder that you see large fields of tomato plants in Georgia, as we’re among the top tomato-producing states, as well as tomato plants staked amid home gardens and flowerbeds. Georgia tomatoes can be used in a hundred different ways and are a great addition to meals, whether sliced for a sandwich or fried up green; try specialty and heirloom varieties when you can find them to enjoy different colors and flavors.

Peppers come in a variety of colors and add lots of flavor to any meal, whether they are mild or hot. Peppers are a good source of vitamins A and C, and have no cholesterol or sodium. Bell peppers may be slightly pungent when green, but ones that have ripened to full coloration can be quite sweet (you can find them in yellow, ivory, chocolate, purple and orange as well as green and red). Try Georgia peppers grilled, sautéed, served as crudités, chopped into salads or added to any recipe where vegetables are used.
