Republicans running for statewide office fired up supporters at the annual Faith and Freedom Coalition victory dinner Monday.
Candidates, including U.S. Rep. Mike Collins who is running for U.S. Senate, touted their conservative beliefs and Christian faith during the conservative organization's fundraiser.
"I'm going to be your next U.S. senator," Collins told the crowd. "You're gonna get a U.S. senator that's gonna stand up for the people of Georgia, stand up and represent our values and make sure that this state is represented in this country and make sure that we have jobs and opportunities for the the people of the state of Georgia."
Gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson also spoke but did not appear on stage at the same time as Collins, who’s been mired in controversy.
In his speech, Jackson focused on overcoming his challenging childhood, and using his Christian faith as a guiding light.
"I want to show people how to get out of poverty," Jackson said. "I want show them how I got out of the poverty and I want tell them that Jesus saves me and following Jesus is the best way to help you in every regard of your life. So my 'why' is I did not think I could live the rest of my life and have more kingdom impact than representing 11 million Georgians using my business skills."
Candidates for lieutenant governor, secretary of state and attorney general also spoke.
The two Democrats at the top of the ticket, gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms and U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, held a joint rally Sunday.
