A new Buc-ee’s slated to open in Monroe County broke ground Tuesday morning.
Buc-ee’s is a chain of super-sized travel centers that have become destinations in their own right due to their popularity on social media. The Buc-ee’s going into Monroe County will be the fourth in Georgia, according to their website, and cover 74,000 square feet.
The project has drawn controversy among county residents, with about 100 residents attending the Monroe County Commission meeting where officials voted on the project in December 2025.
County officials and representatives from Buc-ee’s who spoke Tuesday’s event emphasized their hope that the gas station will bring jobs and tax revenue to the area.

The fourth Buc-ee’s location in Georgia will be located off of I-75 South in Monroe County and is expected to open in the next 14 to 16 months.
As commissioners debated whether to allow the Buc-ee’s into the site off Rumble Road, a major argument in the project’s favor was its potential to create jobs. That point resurfaced Tuesday, as officials and representatives touted that the gas station could bring more than 200 jobs to the area.
“The investment being made here today will bring hundreds of jobs and open doors for many families to create a wonderful life across this region, not only in Monroe County but regions around Monroe County,” said Georgia Rep. Tangie Herring, whose district includes the new Buc-ee’s.
Representatives from Buc-ee’s previously told The Telegraph that the new location will create about 200 full-time roles. The representatives said there will also be part-time roles, but did not have an estimate on how many.

Beaver Aplin, co-founder and president of Buc-ee’s who attended Tuesday’s groundbreaking, said the new development will create about 250 “high paying” jobs. He did not specify if those were full or part-time.
Listings on Indeed for jobs at the Warner Robins Buc-ee’s show employees making $18-21 an hour. Buc-ee’s website says employees also receive paid time off, a 401(k) and medical, dental and vision insurance.
In the same vein, officials said Tuesday that the Buc-ee’s will increase tax revenue to the area. This would primarily come from sales taxes paid by visitors making purchases at the Buc-ee’s, they said, taking some burden off of local residents.
“Georgia is lucky to have four of these, and not only for the convenience of sparkly clean bathrooms, but all the jobs it’s gonna create, the tax benefits for these communities,” said Georgia State Sen. Steven McNeel, whose district includes the new Buc-ee’s.
Buc-ee’s president Arch "Beaver" Aplin III speaks at Monroe County Buc-ee’s groundbreaking on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Forsyth, Ga. The 74,000 square foot travel stop and gas station located off of Rumble Road will be the business’ fourth location in Georgia.
According to documents filed by Buc-ee’s with Monroe County before the project is approved, the new location is expected to generate around $30 million annually. In Monroe County, the combined sales tax rate — which is the total of the state, county and city sales taxes — is 8%.
The state gets about half that revenue, while the remaining money is divided between the Monroe County general fund, the Monroe County Board of Education and the cities of Forsyth and Culloden.
At the time of the new Buc-ee’s approval by the county commission, it was estimated based on these numbers that the Monroe County general fund will collect around $900,000. The Monroe County Board of Education will receive around $300,000.

Officials and Buc-ee’s representatives did not have an official opening date, but Aplin estimated the new Monroe County location will be complete in a little over a year.
He said he expects the new location to draw numerous visitors off nearby I-75, and is optimistic in delivering on promises to Monroe County.
“We love Interstate 75 and we love Georgia,” Aplin said. “It’s a big boost for the taxbase, for the community, as well as for great-paying jobs.”
