This is a developing story.

The U.S. and Israel's war over Iran has engulfed more of the Middle East as it enters its third day.

As the war in the Middle East spirals further, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the U.S. has “ the capability to go far longer ” than its projected four to five week time frame for its military operations against Iran.

GPB is reporting reactions from Georgia elected officials, economic and travel impacts, and the latest news from NPR.

Congress is set to vote on a war powers resolution that would restrain Trump’s attack on Iran without congressional approval.

U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff said Trump should not have acted without the consent of congress.

"The president has launched this regime change war without an explanation to the American people, without clearly stated objectives, without evidence of an imminent threat,” Ossoff said Monday.

Meanwhile U.S. Representative Buddy Carter, who is challenging Ossoff for his senate seat, saidTrump acted within the law.

"The world is safer today than it was two days ago. No question about it. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Carter said.

The president can authorize some military action without congressional approval, but congress is the only branch that can declare war.
