Georgia General Election 2020 ballots are loaded by the FBI onto trucks at the Fulton County Election HUB, Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, in Union City, Ga., near Atlanta.
A newly unsealed affidavit lists the items taken during a recent FBI search of the Fulton County Election Center.
The documents from the 2020 election included ballots, tabulator tapes and ballot images from a recount. The FBI listed several complaints against Fulton County alleging discrepancies in ballot counting justifying the search.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger pushed back on the Department of Justice's effort.
"As Secretary of State, I’ve made Georgia the safest and most secure place to vote," he said. "Instead of wasting time and tax dollars trying to change the past with baseless and repackaged claims, let’s focus our efforts on building a safer, more affordable future for all hardworking Georgians."
The unsealing of the document supporting the Jan. 28 search came because of a legal motion filed by Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts seeking the return of all documents from the 2020 election that were seized from a warehouse near Atlanta by the FBI.
Pitts said voters in Fulton have a right to know what the Department of Justice was allegedly looking for during the operation. But Pitts said he has his own suspicions.
"I still believe that the confiscation of these boxes was a distraction, and what’s really going on here is an attempt, a desire, a will, to interfere with the elections in 2026 and 2028," Pitts said.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly cited unfounded claims that the 2020 election in Fulton County was stolen. Since the search, Trump has suggested that the federal government take over elections in several places, including Fulton County.
