Historic Atlanta Neighborhood Added To National Register

A north Atlanta neighborhood built in the early-to-mid 20th century has joined the official list of America's historic treasures.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources announced Thursday that the neighborhood known as Buckhead Forest was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Buckhead Forest was developed as four separate subdivisions between 1911 and 1945. The densely developed triangle of land is bounded by busy Peachtree, Piedmont and Roswell roads.
Officials say the neighborhood contains an intact collection of architectural styles that were popular with middle-class Georgians dating from before World War I through the 1960s. The earliest developments were characteristic of streetcar suburbs, while later additions reflected the popularity of the automobile.
