Authorities are investigating the death of Matthew Ajibade, a college student who died in jail in Chatham County on January 1.

Not quite two weeks ago, a young black man in Chatham County died after being arrested on domestic violence charges.
Matthew Ajibade’s family says he was in the midst of a bipolar episode. The family has hired an attorney involved in another high profile case - the trial of George Zimmerman, the man acquitted of killing an unarmed black teenager in Florida in 2012.
Meanwhile, two Chatham County sheriff’s deputies are on paid administrative leave while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation looks into the incident. County officials say they can’t comment on details of the case.
Jessica Leigh Lebos has been looking into the case and writes about it in this week’s issue of Connect Savannah. I sat down with her this afternoon and asked her to recap what’s known about the case. You can read more in this week's issue.
