Committee Leaves Transportation Funding To Lawmakers
Primary Content
A committee of state lawmakers looking at transportation funding released its final report Tuesday. It makes no specific recommendations about where that money should come from.
The 23-page document outlined a variety of options--including an increase in the gas tax, establishing a new statewide sales tax for transportation, and an annual fee for owners of hybrid and electric vehicles.
The report says Georgia needs a minimum of one to one and a half billion dollars in new revenue each year, to maintain the state's existing transportation network. The panel also says the state should increase its investment in mass transit.
