The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is stocking north Georgia streams with fish to prepare for opening day of trout season.

Officials say they'll stock streams with more than 1 million trout through the end of the year. Trout stocking coordinator John Lee Thomson said heavy rain has contributed to good stream flows, which helps to better distribute the fish in local streams.

Anglers are reminded to respect private property rights along streams flowing through private land and all anglers must have a valid Georgia fishing and trout license.

Opening day of seasonal trout streams is March 30.
