The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police has canceled an upcoming convention it planned for a convention center nearing completion in Augusta amid questions about the facility's operating details.

Frank Rotondo, executive director of the association, said Monday his group had to proceed with plans for its upcoming winter conference, and had to look elsewhere.

The association had booked the TEE Center for events in 2013 and 2014.

About 250 delegates, police chiefs and top law enforcement officials from across the state, in addition to exhibitors, were scheduled to attend the group's upcoming Jan. 27-30 training conference. It was to have been the first event held at the Augusta center after it opened.

The Augusta Commission has been negotiating agreements with Augusta Riverfront LLC.
