Another national political name has weighed-in on Georgia’s Republican gubernatorial battle. Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has thrown support behind Nathan Deal’s campaign.

Huckabee won the 2008 presidential preference primary in Georgia, and drew support from the state’s conservative evangelical voting base.

Huckabee adds to the endorsement ‘arms race’. Deal also counts former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich in his camp.

Deal’s opponent, Karen Handel, already has the support of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. And Palin is scheduled to travel to Georgia on Monday to stump for Handel, only days before runoff elections on Tuesday.
