Becoming Thurgood - America's Social Architect: offers a powerful look into the life and legacy of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice, and his pivotal role in shaping America's legal landscape. This film is a must-see for anyone interested in law, civil rights, and history.

Before the screening, guests will have the opportunity to network and connect with the great student clubs on ASU's campus. Following the powerful screening, stay for a dynamic panel discussion to gain deeper context and local expert insights into Justice Marshall’s enduring influence on American law and social justice.

Refreshments will be provided before and during the screening. The screening will now be in Lovett Hall on East Campus. The event is free, but registration is required. 

About the Film:

Presented by Maryland Public Television (MPT), Becoming Thurgood: America’s Social Architect traces Marshall’s life and career from his birth in Baltimore in 1908, through his years at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Lincoln University and Howard University School of Law, and on to his groundbreaking career as a lawyer championing civil rights.

The documentary includes exclusive interviews with Marshall’s family members as well as leading historians, authors and legal experts, all of whom offer their insights on Marshall’s life and legacy.
