Primary Content
Hammond Creek Middle School student Kami Harrison interviews students to find out how they feel about the new cellphone ban in Georgia schools affecting students from kindergarten to eighth grade.
There has been a lot of talk going around about the new cellphone laws in Georgia.
On July 1, 2025, a Gov. Brian Kemp-signed law decided to ban cellphones in schools. This affected K-8th grade students.
Many people are saying that it is dangerous.
In some states, they banned cellphones in schools completely. Luckily, in Georgia we can still bring our phones with us, but we have to leave them in our backpacks during school hours.
Many people feel many different ways about this.
Some people believe that the new phone law is not a good idea.
According to Mary Lee King, she believes that students should get a chance to check up during a certain time period. She still believes that we should not use it during class or while we are learning.
Others are unsure on how they feel about it.
Nola Lofty explains how she feels like there are some pros and some cons. She feels that it is good for emergencies, but she thinks that it might affect your learning
And finally some people believe that the new phone law is very important.
Harper Weeks believes that there is no point in having our phones out during the day mainly because we have school phones in each classroom in case of an emergency.
After all of those interviews, I noticed that people think so differently.
Some people believe cellphone laws are very important to have, others think that there is no point for them. Many people agree that cellphones really mess with your brain and affect your schooling.
I feel that cellphones should be allowed, but only when the teacher allows it. So if you are done with your work or have extra time after class you should be allowed to have your phone.
