Alpharetta High School is well known for its strong athletic and scholastic teams, but did you also know that AHS also boasts a strong culinary team?

On March 23, 2012, the Raiders took home 3rd Place in the State ProStart Competition, which took place in the Convocation Center of Kennesaw State University. The 5-member team completed a 30 minute knife skills segment, followed by an hour-long competition during which the students prepared a 3-course menu. Local greens with walnut oil vinaigrette, pan-seared chicken breast with spring vegetable hash, and poached pears with caramel sauce and vanilla bean Chantilly cream were served up by the Culinary Raiders.

The AHS Culinary Team also received a $10,000 Sanitation Award for their outstanding performance in sanitation throughout the competition. Presented by Georgia Pacific, the Hospitality Education Foundation of Georgia, and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, the Sanitation Award scholarship will be used to fund the team members' post-secondary education.

Congratulations to the Raiders' Culinary Team! Find out more information about these young foodies at www.ahsraiders.com.
