As the weather turns colder in Georgia, it’s tempting to stay indoors and curl up watching or listening to programs that both entertain and encourage you to explore a world outside of your own. This winter, GPB offers a variety of performances, documentaries, programs and podcasts for you to explore music throughout the state of Georgia and around the world. Here are a few highlights this winter:

December 31 - Great Performances: Rodgers and Hammerstein 80th Anniversary

Directed and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, this special celebrates the duo that revolutionized Broadway with an all-star cast at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Performers include Michael Ball, Daniel Dae Kim, Maria Friedman, Audra McDonald, Julian Ovenden and more.

Great Performances: Rodgers and Hammerstein 80th Anniversary airs December 31 at 8 p.m. and January 1 at 11 p.m. on GPB-TV and is available to stream now on GPB Passport.

December 31 - Toast of the Nation

An NPR tradition every New Year’s Eve since the 1970s, Toast of the Nation features festive jazz to help you ring in the new year. Hosted by Christian McBride.

Toast of the Nation airs December 31 at 10 p.m. on GPB Statewide Radio.

January 1 - Great Performances:  From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration 2026

Celebrate the arrival of 2026 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in this beloved annual concert. Downton Abbey and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville returns as host, visiting scenic locations throughout Vienna that relate to the orchestra’s concert program, and the program will also feature performances by the Vienna State Ballet. 

Great Performances - From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration 2026 premieres January 1 at 8 p.m. with an encore at 9:30 p.m. on GPB-TV.

January 1 - New Year’s Day in Vienna

Hosted by WBUR’s Lisa Mullins, the ever-popular annual New Year’s Day Concert will be performed live by the Vienna Philharmonic under the baton of Yannick Nezet-Seguin in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna.

New Year’s Day in Vienna airs at 11 a.m. on GPB Classical.

January 5 - POV Shorts: La Orquesta

A sought-after music teacher and conductor, Juana Alzaga sets out to create Georgia’s first youth orchestra for immigrant families. For most, this is their only opportunity for music education. La Orquesta follows Juana and her orchestra over the course of one school year as they navigate health challenges and increasing hostility toward immigrants, finding solace in music.

King Celebration Concert 2025

January 19 - King Celebration Concert

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Chorus join with the Ebenezer Baptist Church Chorus and Band for an evening of reflection and celebration. Special guests include singer Gregory Porter with words from the Reverend Dr. Raphael G. Warnock and works by composers Carlos Simon and Joel Thompson.

King Celebration Concert airs on GPB-TV at 9:30 p.m., GPB Statewide Radio at 10 p.m. and GPB Classical at 8 p.m.
