Join GPB At Marietta Square’s Chalktoberfest And Meet The Voice Of Ace
Primary Content
What does chalk art and GPB’s latest digital show with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities have in common? They’ll both be featured at Chalktoberfest, Marietta’s internationally recognized Chalk Art and Craft Beer Festival, on Oct. 11 and Oct. 12!
Held in Marietta Square in Atlanta, GPB will participate in Chalktoberfest as a sponsor for the first time. The festival promises to be an art-filled weekend featuring professionals across the USA and around the world who bring their talents to Georgia for all to enjoy. We suggest spending an afternoon strolling through the various masterpieces-in-progress on display, discovering where artists get their inspiration (and if it’s like previous years, some artists get their inspiration from people, places and things very close to home!).
Not a professional? Don’t worry, you can still try your hand at creating your own chalk art! On Sunday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m., Chalktoberfest will host a Community Chalk Competition, providing community members a unique opportunity to let their creativity flourish while having the chance to win exciting prizes. Register as an individual or a group on their website.
And if you’re looking to sample some of the best local craft beers, food trucks and works by local artisans? Chalktoberfest has you covered there, too. The Craft Beer Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 from noon to 5 p.m. in West Park Square. While the Craft Beer Festival requires a separate ticketed admission, visitors can enjoy unlimited samples of over 120 different kinds of brew from local companies and 25 varieties of wine. If you’re interested, we recommend getting your tickets in advance online as this event will sell out.
As for us at GPB, we’ll have a tent on-site where we’ll be eager to meet members in the community and talk all things Georgia Public Broadcasting with a special highlight on our latest digital show, Prevengers. With the first three episodes having premiered Oct. 1 and with new episodes uploading weekly to our website and Education YouTube page, Prevengers helps kids navigate the world, encouraging them to make good choices and inspiring them to learn and grow. In the show, four young super heroes travel around the world on their spaceship, the Cardinal 1, and leave the world a better place with the help of their mentor, Ace the Cardinal.
And speaking of Ace, we are pleased to announce that Lex Hanson, Creator, Director, and Writer of Prevengers, will be on-site at our booth during Chalktoberfest! On Saturday, Oct. 11 from noon to 3 p.m., stop by GPB’s booth and get a chance to meet one of the most influential members of the Prevengers team. Hanson is eager to share his experiences making the show, from conception to release, including what it meant for him to be the voice of Ace (yes, he did that, too!). “I'm so happy Prevengers is now available to kids and families across Georgia! I can't wait to meet you at Chalktoberfest and share what it was like to bring the show (including Ace!) to life," Hanson shared with us.
Chalktoberfest is brought to you by the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art (MCMA). Located just off of Marietta Square, MCMA is the only art museum in Metro Atlanta focusing solely on American fine art. The festival proceeds support the Museum’s mission of “building community through art,” and admission to the Museum is free all weekend-long during Chalktoberfest!
