With yesterday’s passing of Aretha Franklin, the world lost a musical legend and cultural icon. Throughout her 50-plus year career, Franklin not only topped the charts with her unique vocal stylings, she became a voice for the Civil Rights Movement and helped advance the cause of women’s rights. From her humble beginnings singing in church to performing at the inaugural events of Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Georgia’s own Jimmy Carter, Franklin had a rich, storied career. Tonight we pay tribute to her with Aretha! Queen of Soul, a special program from PBS hosted by PBS NewsHour’s Hari Sreenivasan.Tune in at 8:30 p.m.
