Plus, celebrity guests like Miley Cyrus and Bubba Wallace join the fun for unforgettable moments your family won’t want to miss!
“Season 56 reimagines "Sesame Street", inviting children into the action and bringing them hand-in-hand through high-stakes stories, powerful learning moments, and laugh-out-loud surprises,” said Sal Perez, Executive Producer. “As always, [the] curriculum is designed to meet children’s most pressing needs, so our focus this season is on kindness and compassion, something we can all use more of today.”
Through playful stories, songs, and laughter, our furry friends will explore compassion, kindness, and social problem-solving in ways little ones can relate to. Using kindness and compassion, children are able to identify big feelings and then apply strategies to help support themselves and others. Children can also use these skills, such as perspective taking, empathy, and validation, to resolve social conflicts with their peers. Throughout the new episodes, “Sesame Street” friends invite kids to join them in using techniques that increase body and sensory awareness, designed to inspire children to replicate these approaches to help manage their feelings.
Here are some examples of kindness, compassion, and social problem-solving that come to life in the episodes:
Elmo Runs the Race: Elmo is excited to compete in the "Sesame Street" races, but he feels annoyed and tired. He learns that eating healthy food will give him energy. Elmo eats his sandwich, feels better, and is ready to race!
Cookie Monster's Big Puzzle: Cookie Monster has a baking puzzle to solve. He needs to create a new cookie for Elmo, but Elmo is not hungry and gets frustrated when Cookie Monster doesn't listen. Cookie Monster learns the importance of respecting what Elmo wants and apologizes.
Abby’s Magic Beasties: Abby is excited to introduce her friends to the amazing, magical beasties who live in her Fairy Garden, but when one of the beasties goes missing right before sunset, Abby feels discouraged. She does a wand wiggle and remembers to use bright light to find Bubble Bug.
Grover’s Suity Suitcase: When Grover learns that Elmo is sad, he knows just what to do! He will become Super Grover, the super friend who will do anything to make Elmo giggle again! When his attempts don't work, a discouraged Grover wonders if he should give up, until he learns that sometimes compassion means asking others how they would like to be helped.
