Celebrate Economic Education Month With GPB’s Econ Express, Start It Up, And More
Primary Content
October is National Economic Education Month, and there’s no better time to help Georgia students make authentic connections between the classroom and the economy around them. Whether it’s understanding supply and demand, building financial literacy, or exploring entrepreneurship, GPB offers a full suite of free digital resources developed with the Georgia Council on Economic Education (GCEE) that make economics engaging, practical, and fun.
Econ Express breaks down key high school economics concepts into clear, student-friendly explanations with videos, interactive practice, and teacher guides aligned to the latest Georgia standards. From personal finance to global trade, this series helps students see how economics influences their everyday lives and empowers them to make informed decisions about their futures.
For middle and high school students ready to dream big, Start It Up introduces the fundamentals of entrepreneurship through a small business simulation that inspires innovation and creativity. Students can turn their ideas into thriving businesses, connecting classroom learning to career possibilities.
What happens when a movie producer runs out of money? In Lights, Camera, Budget!, students step into the role of a film producer and learn essential budgeting skills along the way. This interactive game turns financial literacy into an exciting challenge where every decision impacts the outcome (just like in the real world).
Classroom Conversations Podcast
In Episode 410, “Money Talks: Economics and Personal Finance in K-12 Classrooms,” host Ashley Mengwasser sits down with two standout Georgia educators — Sherry Anthony (elementary) and Craig Ellis (high school) — to dig into how personal finance instruction can become a powerful tool in the classroom. They share real strategies for teaching money concepts (from credit and saving to compound interest), tell stories about their students’ successes in state competitions, and explore how economic thinking enriches civic literacy. Whether you teach fifth grade or senior year, this episode offers practical insights and inspiration to help students grow as financially savvy, empowered citizens. Classroom Conversations is a collaboration with the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE).
As we celebrate National Economic Education Month, GPB along with our partners in education, remain committed to supporting educators and students across Georgia with engaging, standards-aligned content that builds financial literacy, fosters entrepreneurial thinking, and connects learning to life beyond the classroom.
