Above busy North Druid Hills Road, an extraordinary mythical kingdom of fantasy and metal, the Decatur home of Clark Ashton is unlike anything in DeKalb County. Since purchasing the modest ranch home in 1984, "the Mechanical Riverfront Kingdom," has grown in size and public curiosity.
Ashton is an artist, musician, dreamer, and "do-er," possessing a world vision of spirituality shaped by capitalism. The Augusta native and Georgia State University alum is the Elmer Gentry of local artists, "stand back non-believers!"
The work includes performance art in tandem with the sculptures. If Willy Wonka were to call Atlanta metro home, this would be the place for the Golden Ticket. Here is our visit to a very interesting local home.
