Football Fridays in Georgia: GHSA Power Rankings, Thomasville’s Big Win, and Camden County’s Unique Challenges
Primary Content
Jon and Hannah recap a busy week of Georgia football, including North Gwinnett’s 45-13 win over Mill Creek, Thomasville’s 30-16 victory over defending state champion Worth County, and Richmond Hill’s late win over Ware County. You will also hear from Thomasville head coach Jonathan DeLay about quarterback Christian Hayes and player leadership, while Camden County head coach Tucker Pruitt discusses Xavier Collins, building a new culture, and the challenge of scheduling Florida opponents under the GHSA power ranking system.
North Gwinnett entered its matchup against Mill Creek as the more experienced team, and that experience showed in a 45-13 win. Jon Nelson and Hannah Goodin look at how the Bulldogs have developed under Eric Godfree while Mill Creek works through a younger roster. They also revisit Richmond Hill’s 13-7 win over Ware County, decided when a blocked field goal attempt was returned for a touchdown, and take a look at some of the highest-scoring games in Georgia high school football history.
At Thomasville, head coach Jonathan DeLay is asking his players to measure themselves by improvement rather than reputation. The Bulldogs defeated defending state champion Worth County 30-16 after losing one-point games to the Rams in each of the previous two seasons. Coach DeLay explains how senior Christian Hayes moved from defensive back to quarterback, why Hayes and Isaiah Palacios have emerged as leaders, and why the best teams eventually have to become player-led.
Farther south, Camden County faces a challenge shaped as much by geography as football. Head coach Tucker Pruitt talks about establishing his program’s culture, quarterback Xavier Collins’ development, and Camden’s 39-36 win over Godby (FL). With Jacksonville only a short drive away, Camden regularly fills its schedule with Florida opponents. That creates an unusual question under Georgia’s power ranking formula, where victories over out-of-state teams carry different value. Coach Pruitt’s response is simple: prepare to play anyone, wherever the numbers send you.
