The North Paulding girls won their first state title, the Murray County girls got revenge and turned the tables on Hardaway.  On the boys side, Morgan County and Wheeler boys padded their trophy cases.

The championship was especially sweet for Wheeler, which won its second straight title and 11th in school history.

Here's a look at the final day at the GHSA Basketball Championships in Macon.

Class 6A boys: Wheeler 62, Pebblebrook 52

Colben Landrew scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (27-6) to their second straight state championship and 11th in the program’s history. Wheeler has won six of the last eight championships.

Wheeler also got 11 points from LaMarrion Lewis, who had three assists and three steals. 

Pebblebrook was led by Alexander Jones with 18 points. Donald McMillian and Anthony Moon each scored 11 and Moon had a team-high eight rebounds.

Class 6A girls: North Paulding 64, Grayson 58

North Paulding outscored Grayson 17-4 over the last 5:03 of the third quarter, including a three-quarter length-of-the-court shot at the buzzer by Kalee Hinkson. It was the first state championship for the Patriots and the second straight season Grayson has lost in the state final.  

North Paulding (31-2) got 19 points from Hinkson and 17 points, 21 rebounds, four assists, five steals and two blocks from Morgan Landrum. Kenzie Hickson added 11 points.

Grayson (22-10) was led by Coco Rudolph with 32 points. The Kennesaw State signee scored 40 in the semifinal win over Hillgrove. Liyah Williams scored nine for the Rams.

Class 2A boys: Morgan County 53, Butler 52 OT

Zeki Locus scored 20 points and hit a pair of free throws with 6.3 seconds left to help Morgan County unseat the defending state champions. 

Butler had a chance to win the game at the buzzer but De’Cori Fleming’s shot rolled around the rim and fell off as the horn sounded.

Morgan County (26-6) also got 10 points each from Trey Carter and Garrett Ward. The Bulldogs won the fourth state title and first for coach Corey Anderson. 

Butler (25-5) was led by Kwamane Bridges with 22 points and De’Cori Fleming added 12. 

Murray

Class 2A girls: Murray County 52, Hardaway 48

Callan Ledford scored 19 points and her sister Blaklee Ledford added 13 to help Murray County avenge last year’s championship game loss to Hardaway. Blaklee hit a pair of free throws with three seconds remaining to clinch the outcome. 

Hadley Dotson led Murray County (27-4) with six rebounds. 

Rhianna Boynton, limited to 10 games because of knee surgery, had 23 points, 21 rebounds and three assists to pace Hardaway (23-9). Marlane White added 12 points.

It was the second state title for Murray County, the first since 1965.

Adaptive: Houston County 44, West Georgia 9

Houston County won its fifth straight championship and its 13th title with the resounding win. Houston beat West Georgia twice during the regular season.
