Football Fridays in Georgia: Hoops Edition - Butler Bulldogs: From Hunter to Hunted
Primary Content
Butler High School basketball head coach Chaz Clark joins the Hoops Edition of the podcast to discuss the Bulldogs’ breakthrough state championship and their pursuit of another title. Coach Clark explains how Butler built one of the best defensive teams in Georgia and what changed when the program went from hunter to hunted. Hear how the Augusta program developed a winning culture and prepares for another run at the top.
For years, the Butler Bulldogs were close. The Augusta program made deep runs and built momentum, but the championship moment always seemed just out of reach. That changed in 2025 when Butler finally captured a state title. Now the Bulldogs return with experience, expectations, and a new challenge. Everyone sees them coming.
Head coach Chaz Clark knows the difference. For most of his career, Butler was chasing established programs across Georgia and South Carolina. Now opponents measure themselves against Butler. Coach Clark reflects on what it means to be the hunted instead of the hunter and how expectations around campus shifted from hoping for a win to asking how big the victory might be.
Defense sits at the center of Butler’s identity. Coach Clark says the Bulldogs win games the same way good football teams do, by defending and controlling the fundamentals. With guards Kwamane Bridges and De'Cori Fleming leading the offense and a balanced roster behind them, Butler heads into the championship stage in Macon with confidence and a goal that once felt distant. Doing it all again.
