Gilmer coach Paul Standard earned the 200th victory of his career on Friday when the Bobcats defeated Ridgeland 38-6.

Standard’s overall record in 25 seasons as head coach is 200-99. He became the 69th coach in Georgia to win 200 games.

Standard is in his fifth season at Gilmer and has compiled a 26-27 record at the northeast Georgia school. The Bobcats will be making their third straight trip to the playoffs, something that has only happened one previous time in school history.

The Bobcats enter the 3A tournament as the No. 22 seed and will face No. 11 Douglass in the first round.

Standard spent most of his career at St. Pius, his alma mater. There his teams went 174-72 and won eight region championships. The Golden Lions reached the state final twice in 2012 and 2014, both times losing to Buford. St. Pius won double-digit games eight times during his tenue.

A graduate of The Citadel, Standard previously served as an assistant at Meadowcreek, Loganville and Dacula.

Carver won its second state championship in 2024.

The Class 2A No. 1-ranked Carver Columbus Tigers earned the 400th victory in the program’s history on Thursday with a 42-0 victory over Kendrick. The victory was their sixth shutout of the season and completed a perfect 10-0 regular season.

Carver has been playing football since 1959 and has an overall record of 400-303-8 with 17 region championships and two state titles over 67 seasons.

Carver, the defending Class 2A champion, is playing under first-year coach Jarvis Jones, an alumnus of the school who played at University of Georgia and four seasons in the NFL before injuries shortened his career.

The program began its extended period of success under coach Dell McGee, now the head coach at Georgia State University. McGee spent eight seasons at Carver from 2005-12 and went 88-19 with six region championships and one state title (2007).

Corey Joyner went 42-7 in four seasons from 2018-21 with three region championship. Pierre Coffey went 33-8 in three seasons from 2022-24 with two region titles and the 2024 state championship; he resigned to become a principal in Stewart County.

Carver will enter the state tournament as the No. 3 overall seed. The Tigers will host Redan in the first round on Nov. 14.
