The scenario for this week’s Football Fridays in Georgia showdown between Douglas County and Carrollton is simple. It’s a winner-take-all situation with the victor getting the No. 1 seed in Region 2-6A and the guarantee of a home game for the first two rounds of the state playoffs.

Kickoff on GPB-TV is 7:30 p.m. 

No. 3 Carrollton (9-0, 3-0) did not play last week. No. 7 Douglas County (7-2, 3-0) rolled in a 48-10 win over county rival Chapel Hill. 

Carrollton leads the all-time series 17-9-1. The Trojans have won the last 10 meetings and prevailed 49-28 last year when both teams were in the same region again. 

Four others to watch

Lowndes vs. Valdosta: The “Winnersville Classic” will determine the No. 1 seed in Region 1-6A. Lowndes (9-0, 4-0) can nail down the title with a win. Valdosta (8-1, 3-1) needs a victory to create a three-way tie with Colquitt County (7-2, 3-1).  Lowndes won 30-20 last year to break a two-game losing streak to the Wildcats. Valdosta leads the all-time series 39-24.

Mill Creek at Buford: The two state-ranked powers will play for the Region 8-6A championship. No. 2 Buford (9-0, 5-0) has beaten the other five teams in the region by a cumulative score of 293-24. No. 10 Mill Creek (7-2, 5-0) has won five straight since losing to No. 4 North Gwinnett. Buford leads the series 2-1. Buford won last year 32-7 after Mill Creek beat the Wolves 31-24 in 2023 in a nationally televised game.

North Paulding at Marietta: Marietta (5-4) can win the Region 5-6A title with a victory over North Paulding (7-2). The Blue Devils have won five straight since starting the season with four losses. If Marietta wins, the Blue Devils will have their first region title since 2005. A North Paulding win would create a three-way tie for first place with North Cobb (6-3); Marietta defeated North Cobb 36-35 on Dec. 10. North Paulding leads the series 8-3 and won last year’s game 38-28. This will be the live Stream Game of the Week on GPB.org/sports.

Milton at Roswell: The oldest rivalry in North Fulton resumes with the Region 7-5A title in the balance. No. 5 Roswell (8-1, 5-0) can win the region with a victory, while a win by No. 6 Milton (7-2, 4-1) would create a three-way tie for first place with Gainesville (8-2, 5-1). Roswell leads the series 38-31-1.

BONUS: Other showdowns to watch

Sandy Creek at Troup: The winner between the two 9-0 teams earns the Region 2-3A championship. No. 1 Sandy Creek tuned up with a 44-0 win over Mary Persons and Troup hammered Spalding 48-14. Sandy Creek leads the series 7-3 and won last year’s game 55-48 in a shootout.

Hughes at Lovejoy: Class 5A No. 2 Hughes (9-0, 6-0) and Lovejoy (7-1, 4-1) will determine the Region 3A title. Hughes is trying for its first unbeaten season since 2022, when the Panthers won the state championship. Lovejoy is chasing its first region championship since 2013. 

Habersham Central at Jackson County: The Region 8-5A championship will go to the winner. Habersham (7-2, 5-0) hasn’t won a region title since 2007. Jackson County has never won a region championship since the program began in 1980.

Westside-Augusta at West Laurens: The winner between the two 9-0 teams will earn the Region 4-3A championship. No. 9 West Laurens is seeking its first region championship since 2019, while Westside is trying to claim its first title since 2000. 

Callaway at Morgan County: No. 4 Callaway (7-2) and No. 2 Morgan County (9-0) will decide the Region 2-2A title. Morgan County is trying to finish its first undefeated regular season since 1974.

North Murray at Rockmart: The Region 7-2A crown will go to the winner between No. 7 North Murray (9-0) and No. 5 Rockmart (8-1). Rockmart is attempting to win a region championship for the ninth straight year. North Murray is trying for its first undefeated regular season and first region title since 2019. 

Savannah Christian at Toombs County: The winner will be the region-season champion for Region 3 in Class Division 1. 

Lamar County at Jasper County: The Class A Division 1 showdown will settle matters in Region 4. No. 5 Lamar County and unranked Jasper County are both 9-0 overall and 5-0 in league play. 

Screven County at Emanuel County Institute: The two east Georgia powers will vie for the Region 3 title for Class A Division 2. No. 5 Screven County (9-0) is going for its first region championship and first undefeated regular reason since 2017. No. 9 ECI (7-2) has won seven in a row since opening the season with losses to Wilcox County and Swainsboro.
