The GPB Top 10 rankings showed little change again this week. With only two weeks left in the regular season, the No. 1 ranked teams are secure in their position and there has been little movement among the state’s elite.

“The last two weeks should be very interesting,” said GPB’s Jon Nelson. “There are a lot of rivalry games this week and next week and those could shake things up. But for the most part the cream has risen to the top.”

10-24

There were a few newcomers to the rankings this week.

In Class 6A, Mill Creek jumped up to No. 10. The Hawks are 7-2 and finish the regular season next week at No. 2 Buford in a big rivalry game.

In Class 5A, Woodward Academy entered the rankings for the first time since early in the year. The War Eagles (6-2) have won five in a row since losing to Class 4A No. 5 Marist. Their other loss was to Class 6A No. 3 Carrollton in the season opener.

In Class 3A, Westside-Augusta joined the rankings for the first time this season at No. 10. The undefeated Patriots (8-0) host Baldwin on Friday and could set up a winner-take-all showdown against No. 8-raned West Laurens (7-1) for the Region 4 title in the final week of the season.

In Class A Division I, Dublin moved back into the rankings this week after its 42-19 win over then-No. 4 Bleckley County. The Irish (6-2) play winless Central Macon this week before closing against No. 8 Dodge County in a game that could determine the Region 2 championship.

All the No. 1 teams held their position: Grayson in Class 6A, Thomas County Central in 5A, North Oconee in 4A, Sandy Creek in 3A, Carver-Columbus in 2A, Worth County in AD1, Lincoln County in AD2 and Hebron Christian in Private.
