Week 11: Five Games to Watch

There could be a region title on the line this week when Norcross hosts North Gwinnett in GPB Sports Football Fridays in Georgia broadcast.
Kickoff is at 7:30 and will be carried live on GPB-TV and streamed live on GPB.org.
No. 4-ranked North Gwinnett (7-1, 5-0) will win the Region 7-6A championship for the second straight season by finishing the season with victories over Norcross and Duluth (4-4). Norcross (6-2, 4-1) will win the region title if it finishes the season with wins over North Gwinnett and Brookwood (6-2).
North Gwinnett is coming off a 63-0 victory over Meadowcreek that yielded the 150th win over coach Eric Godfree’s career. The Bulldogs have won seven straight since losing the season opener to Douglas County.
Norcross tuned up with a 35-19 rout of Berkmar. The Blue Devils, in their first season under coach Corey Richardson, have won three in a row since its loss to Peachtree Ridge.
Norcross leads the all-time series 15-14, but North Gwinnett has won the last six meetings, including 27-12 a year ago.
Four other top games to watch
North Atlanta at West Forsyth: West Forsyth (7-1, 5-0) could clinch first place in Region 6-6A with a victory. This is GPB’s Stream Game and can be seen live on GPB.org.
The Wolverines have won five straight since its lone loss, a non-region setback against Parkview. They are coming off a 35-28 win over rival North Forsyth. Their last region championship came in 2020.
North Atlanta (4-4, 3-2) won the region championship a year ago. The Warriors have lost their last two games by a close margin – an overtime setback against Lambert (its second OT loss of the year) and a four-point loss to North Forsyth.
North Atlanta won the only meeting between the schools last year, 28-24.
Rome at New Manchester: The winner of this game will win the Region 5-5A championship. Rome (6-2, 5-0) is on a six-game winning streak since starting the season with losses to powerhouses Creekside and Carrollton. New Manchester (7-0, 5-0) is vying for its first region title since 2020 and has never before started the season 7-0.
Rome, who has won a region title the last four years and seven of the last nine years, warmed up for the showdown by defeating South Paulding 62-22. New Manchester did not play.
Rome leads the series 3-0 and won last year’s game 35-7.
Cambridge at Kell: Kell (7-2, 3-0) can win the Region 6-4A title with a victory. Cambridge (7-1, 2-0) needs to win out – it finishes with Blessed Trinity – to secure the region title. Kell, which routed Centennial 56-20 last week, has won four straight since losing to Class 6A power Lowndes. Cambridge was idle last week and is on a four-game winning streak since its loss to Denmark. Kell leads the series 4-3 and won last year’s game 28-14.
Mitchell County at Early County: This is a showdown in Class A Division 2’s Region 1. Early County (6-2, 5-0) could clinch the title with a win; the Bobcats finish the season with a non-region game. Mitchell County (5-2, 4-0) needs to win out against Early County and Seminole County, currently in third place. Early County leads the all-time series 25-23-1 and won last year’s game 48-16. Mitchell Country defeated Miller County 35-25 last week, while Early County blanked winless Pelham 37-0.
