Milestones: Savannah ends 40-game losing streak

Savannah went on the road and put an end to the state’s second-longest active losing streak on Friday. The Bluejackets traveled to Claxton and emerged with a 19-6 victory to end a 40-game skid.
Frank Frazer ran for two touchdowns and Eli Frieson scored on a 49-yard run. Tyshaun Coleman had a crucial interception in the fourth quarter to help put the game away.
Savannah is playing its first season under coach Moses Green, the former defensive coordinator at Jenkins. Green previously worked at Savannah for three years as an assistant coach.
Savannah has shown improvement this season under Green and came close to ending its streak earlier this year, losing 21-14 in overtime to Portal.
Savannah’s last victory came on Sept. 17, 2021, when it defeated Groves 12-6. It went 0-10 in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Jordan has the state’s longest active losing streak, which reached 50 games on Friday.
No. 100 for Jonesboro coach
Veteran Jonesboro coach Tim Floyd earned his 100th career victory on Friday when the Cardinals defeated Mundy’s Mill 49-0.
Floyd has spent his entire head coaching career at Jonesboro, starting in 2009. Now in his 17th season, Floyd is 100-80 with one region championship. The Cardinals have been to the state playoffs in eight of the last 10 years and reached the quarterfinal round in 2015.
