There are three new No. 1 teams in this week’s GPB Sports Top 10 poll. Taking over the top spot were Sandy Creek in Class 3A, Worth County in Class A Division I and Prince Avenue in Class 3-1A Private.

Sandy Creek, ranked No. 2 last week, flipped places with former No. 1 Calhoun, which lost 38-35 to Class 4A No. 2 Cartersville in a game seen on GPB’s Football Fridays in Georgia. Click here to watch the Calhoun-Cartersville on GPB.org. Sandy Creek did not play last week.

Worth County made the jump from No. 5 to the top spot after No. 1 Toombs County, No. 2 Thomasville and No. 3 Savannah Christian all lost. Worth defeated Brooks County 44-25 after building a 31-7 lead.

Prince Avenue Christian moved up one spot after Savannah Christian lost to Oceanside Collegiate of South Carolina, that state’s reigning Class 3A champion. Prince Avenue did not play last week.

“These kinds of things happen a lot of times when a smaller school has to play up in classification to fill out their schedule,” GPB’s Jon Nelson said. “Most of the time you can’t really punish them for playing a larger opponent.”

Note: The GPB poll includes private school teams in Class 1-3A in the rankings according to classification, since they compete alongside those same teams during the regular season. The GPB poll also has a separate ranking for the Private schools since they compete separately during the state playoffs. Thus, many private schools will appear in both sets of rankings.
