Fellowship Christian, No. 9 in Class A Division I, opened the season by knocking off three-time defending Class A Division II champion and No. 1-ranked Bowdon 26-0. It was the second straight season the Paladins have started the season by beating the Red Devils.
Class 2A No. 7 Hebron Christian, the reigning Private champion, put up a 29-22 victory over North Atlanta. It was the first victory for new coach Kenny Dallas, who took over for Jonathan Gess.
Hebron leads the series 2-1 and won the last two meetings, including 24-17 a year ago.
Cartersville at Rockmart: Only 19 miles separate these two northwest Georgia communities, who resumed their football series last year for the firsts time since 2019. North Cobb at McEachern: After a couple of down years, McEachern appears ready to reclaim its stature as one of Cobb County’s big-time players. The Indians thrashed Walton 50-17 at the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic on Saturday. Class 6A No. 5 North Cobb opened with a 28-14 win over a solid Archer team. The series was resumed last season for the first time since 2019, with North Cobb winning 45-33. McEachern leads the series 26-25-2 and has won 10 of the last 12 meetings.
Coffee at Ware County: Two South Georgia powers collide in the Swamp. Class 4A No. 7 Ware County stunned Class 3A No. 2 Appling County 55-7, breaking open a close game with 43 second-half points. The Gators returned two fumbles for touchdowns during the blitz. No. 6 Coffee defeated Bainbridge 18-14 behind the 162 yards rushing and four touchdowns of running back Kentavius Debruce. Coffee leads the all-time series 30-22 and won last year’s game 20-16.
Perry at Peach County: Unranked Perry warmed up its regional rivalry by bopping Baldwin 46-18. Class 3 No. 3 Peach County enjoyed an emphatic 33-14 victory over Northeast, the No. 4 team in Class A Division I. Peach County leads the series 33-12 and has won the last three meetings, 49-39 in 2024.
