The beauty of Georgia’s diverse economy is the opportunity that diversity brings to Georgia’s workforce.

Are you a creative type looking to entertain? Come check out our entertainment industry. It’s booming in Georgia, after all.

Are you into designing the newest flying machines? Look into the aerospace industry. It’s booming in Georgia, after all.

You know what else is booming in Georgia? Logistics. In fact, Georgia’s Port of Savannah is one of the busiest ports in the world.

In Atlanta, UPS and Delta, two of the biggest names in the country make Georgia their home.  Logistics is ever-present in our lives, whether we know it or not, and that means plenty of opportunities for stable, rewarding careers in Georgia.

"The logistics ecosystem in Georgia is the grease that allows the wheels of commerce to turn smoothly in all facets of our state’s economy,” said Matt Markham, the Director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics. “Every item you purchase or anything that is manufactured or transported to or through our state relies upon the state’s logistics infrastructure in some form or fashion to enable its success.

The logistics industry has been a staple of Georgia’s economy for some time, and we can expect it to gain more hold in the area in the coming years thanks to several economic factors.

University of Georgia’s Terry College Dean Benjamin C. Ayers gave a speech at UGA’s 35th annual Georgia Economic Outlook last December touting what he said were positive indicators for the strength of the industry in Georgia.

“Transportation and logistics will gain from the continuing recovery of construction because construction is one of the most transportation-intensive sectors of the economy,” he said. “Georgia’s manufacturing activity will upshift in 2018, providing yet another tailwind to transportation and logistics firms.”

What does that mean for Georgians? It means more jobs in logistics, that’s for sure. Right now on Indeed.com there are more than 4,000 job listings when you search “Logistics” in Georgia.

More than half of those (2,100+) are in the $45,000+ jobs category, too.

Logistics is a major player in Georgia’s economy, and for those looking for a new career, you might want to look into it.
