While the national and international celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day isn’t until January 16th, Tybee Island is honoring the civil rights leader and his legacy of nonviolence this Saturday afternoon with the annual Tybee MLK Parade. Julia Pearce, events coordinator for the celebration, joined us to share more about this parade that she says is all about the community. Click on the link below to hear more.
After the parade, they will present the annual Humanitarian Award to the Mayor of Tybee Island, Jason Buelterman. Pearce says he was chosen as this year’s honoree because of his hard work and leadership during Hurricane Matthew. Former Georgia State Senator Regina Thomas will serve as grand marshal of the parade that begins this Saturday morning, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. Find details at TybeeMLK.org.
