When it comes to sugar, consider the calories.
They all count, and they add up. Fast.
Too many calories from any source, including sugar, can add up to unwanted girth. Fat.
So good news about very low calorie or non-caloric sweeteners is always welcome.
We have some.
The American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association
studied well-known near-zero calorie sweeteners:
Assasulfame Potassium – Ace K for short, Sweet One
Aspartame, Equal and Nutra Sweet
Saccharine, the oldest, aka Sweet N Low
And plant-derived Steevia: Sweet Leaf, TruVia, & Pure Via. All are allowed by FDA.
And used sensibly to replace sugar, they can mean lower calorie intake.
But don’t use them as an excuse for consuming other calorie-laden products. They’re useful in reducing total calories.
Remember: these sweeteners can be hundreds of times sweeter than sugar,
so a little can go a long way. One packet has Zero to 4 calories … compared to the 32 calories in just two teaspoons of sugar.
Sugar-free drinks can be refreshing, hydrating, and can help you cut calories at the same time. Use them sensibly.
