Janelle Monae – Monae’s music, unique in style, is often referred to as cyber hip-hop, mixing synthesized, robotic beats with soulful melodies that resemble those of older R&B generations. Monae’s newest set of songs follow a fictional story-line about a girl named Cindi Mayweather.
Modern Skirts – MS is a Athens based “pop-song” creation machine, with a traditional “Wonders” sound plus a few electronic key-board solo’s scattered here and there. With more than one lead singer, the band is chock-full of multi-talented professionals who are equally devoted to pop-form.
Hank Vegas – Based in Macon, HV is a true, new-age, southern, rock band. Their heartache-carved lyrics mixed with screeching steel-guitar-sounding solo’s make a sound all too familiar, but just as addicting. Listeners describe this band as “REM with a steel guitar.”
Dead Confederate – With a classic, five piece set-up: two guitars, bass, drums, and keys, DC combines the sounds of punk, psychedelic, and 90’s grunge rock. The indie band often features lumbering, southern rock tunes with a few dark notes and a bittersweet twist.
Little Country Giants – LCG consists of Russell and Cameron Cook, a married couple. They write and perform folk songs out of Rome. Their sound has been described as century-old Appalachian folk that is as pure and simple as it is true and timeless; a true recollection of America and its roots.
Evan McHugh – McHugh and his trusty, acoustic guitar take a touch jazz, a dab of drums, a slice of dream-inducing melody, and a sprinkle and warm sunshine, and mix it all together. McHugh sounds a little like John Mayer or Damien Rice, only happier.
Marshall Ruffin – Ruffin lives in Columbus, looks like the boy next door but when he opens his mouth, deep, southern and scruffy blues slowly tickle out. With snare and high hat beats, a double bass, and traditional blues chord progression progressions on the electric guitar, its obvious his influences include Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis.
Canton Jones– Jones is a Christian hip-hop artist who performs regularly at World Changers International Church in Atlanta. “More than an artist, he represents a philosophy, a movement, and a generation of believers who are relentless in their pursuit to bridge the gap between the church and the streets,” said a listener. Jones is currently on a mission to save a million youth across the globe.
The Edison Project – TEP sound exactly like what they are: four friends in from Augusta who play and write music together. Between progressive anthems that induce crowds to sing along, complex harmonies, and a groovy pop meets The White Stripes style, TEP has something for everyone.
All the Saints – AtS is a noisy trio of gloom and doom. They sound like a sad punk band with all the screams and dark lustrous chords in slow, dragging tempos. They take the time to really strip down the sound and sometimes feature acoustic guitar songs with lyrics that can cut any listeners heart to the core.
Savannah Sound : It sounds like punk meets metal but neither one distinct enough to qualify as category. Two bands, Kylesa and Baroness exemplify the Savannah sound: loud cartoon-ish riffs, heavy distortion, and angrily screamed vocals.
