Vincent Shebat

Mr. Vincent Shebat was an American child in Manila during World War II. He describes the capture of Manila by the Japanese and how his family was separated and forced into prison camps. Mr. Shebat talks about how he survived in the children’s camp. When the Americans returned, he remembers, Manila was destroyed by the bombing by the Americans and the Japanese massacre of civilians. He recounts many of the horrific events he witnessed. Adopted into the 37th Ohio National Guard, Mr. Shebat tells of his own combat experience and having to shoot a Japanese soldier.
