Waves

Intertwining history, song and dance, Waves chronicles the hardships of a country torn apart by the Irish famine and celebrates the courage of those individuals who sought a fresh start in the "New World." The one-hour program mixes animation and archival stills with performances of orchestral and traditional ensemble music, step-dancing, ballet and interpretive dance for a unique and personal account of this tragic period in Ireland’s history. The program focuses on a young married couple’s attempts to raise a family in rural Ireland during the “Great Hunger” of the mid-19th century. Waves also features a performance by renowned folksinger Tommy Makem.
