Physics 1403: Lenses

Total internal reflection is explained and used to explain how optical fibers work. Students investigate refraction of lenses in the laboratory and construct ray diagrams and make calculations relating to focal length, image distance, object distance, and image magnification for lenses. Optics is applied to vision correction, telescopes, microscopes, and other practical applications.
