Stories in Stone

For over four hundred years, the Narragansett Tribal stonemasons built many of the stone walls that wind picturesquely through the woods of southern New England. In Stories in Stone, filmmakers Lilach Dekel and Marc Levitt intersperse footage that eloquently captures the beauty of these walls and interviews with tribal elders and members of two prominent Narragansett mason families. This poetic and inspirational documentary is a story of love, heritage and family. It is also a tale about how one art form, initiated at the point of European contact, has transformed the lives of the Narragansett Indians.
