Joshua Murfree, head of the Dougherty County School System, will leave his post on Dec. 18. Murfree replaced former superintendent Sally Whatley in June 2010 and took over just as a state probe into standardized test cheating began.
The Dougherty County School System has received two letters from the Georgia Department of Education questioning $167,000 in Title 1 Part A expenditures from fiscal 2011. The letters seeking more documentation arrived one month after the school system reimbursed the state more than $134,000 for unallowable expenditures.
