Georgia Public Broadcasting Launches GPB Knowledge
All-New Digital Channel Features Programming from GPB Education,
Great Documentaries and Public Affairs and Lifestyle Programming

Georgia Public Broadcasting, the PBS Station serving all of Georgia, launched GPB Knowledge, an all-new digital channel, today. The new channel features quality educational content for teachers and students, great documentaries, as well as public affairs and lifestyle programming.

“Georgia Public Broadcasting is excited we are now able through our new digital broadcast capabilities to extend access to our extensive educational offerings to all citizens across the state,” said GPB Executive Director Nancy Hall. “We will continue to work closely with our various education programming partners to enrich the value of the learning experience available to all Georgians through GPB as well as expand our offerings to Georgia learners of all ages.”

Educators and learners of all ages in Georgia depend on GPB Education to provide top quality programs that meet Georgia curriculum standards and provide expanded learning options. As part of the schedule lineup, GPB Knowledge is providing programs that examine Southern regional history such as Georgia Stories and American History Through Southern Eyes and provide greater access to programming such as GED Connection, Workplace Essential Skills and Road Trip, which were previously available only through GPB Education’s satellite network or over GPB Television’s Overnight Schedule.

"GPB Knowledge is going to be a wonderful tool for our schools and our citizens," said State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox. "This channel will help students of all ages to get the information and education they need to be successful in the 21st century.”

In the Atlanta area, viewers can continue to enjoy GPB Television’s top quality programming on Channel 8 (analog) and 8.1 (digital/HD) and set their digital tuners to
8. 3 to receive GPB Knowledge.

Viewers of GPB Television’s statewide broadcasts in other markets can also continue to enjoy its programming at the regular dial setting. GPB Knowledge is now available as well at the following digital channel destinations: Albany (14.3); Augusta (20.3); Chatsworth (18.3); Columbus (28.3); Dawson (25.3); Macon (29.3); Savannah (9.3) and Waycross (8.3). For cable and satellite channel information, viewers should check with their local providers.

“Georgia Public Broadcasting’s new digital channel, GPB Knowledge, is an important addition to our state’s educational efforts,” said State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. “In today’s competitive job market, it is critical that workers continuously expand their knowledge and skills in order to be successful. GPB Knowledge will be a vital resource in helping them achieve their career goals, while simultaneously helping to ensure that Georgia develops and maintains a world-class work force.”

Programming for GPB Knowledge also includes public affairs favorites Washington Week, Nightly Business Report, Frontline, Tavis Smiley and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, which will be featured at alternate broadcast times from GPB Television’s regular schedule. GPB Knowledge will also air Charlie Rose and the BBC World News exclusively. In addition to great PBS shows like American Experience, American Masters and NOVA, GPB Knowledge will broadcast specials like the critically-acclaimed Ken Burns documentary The War. GPB Knowledge will also feature award-winning GPB Original Productions such as Georgia Traveler, Gardening in Georgia and Georgia Outdoors.

“The Technical Education System of Georgia is excited about GPB Knowledge and the great digital programming it offers to Georgians,” said Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Ron Jackson. “We congratulate Georgia Public Broadcasting, our long-time partner in education, on bringing great telecasts like Road Trip to viewers throughout our state.”
