VALDOSTA - “Prep Sports Plus Classic Playback”

With the Fall Classic upon us, this week’s “Prep Sports Plus Classic Playback” takes us back in time to 2001 for another look at one of Georgia’s high school baseball greats, Lowndes High shortstop, Stephen Drew.

GAINESVILLE

We visit Coach Bruce Miller and the Gainesville High Red Elephants football team, a highly motivated group of about 25 seniors with one major goal – a December trip to the Georgia Dome.

LITHONIA

M.L. King High senior running back Mack Brown had one heck of a junior year rushing for nearly 1,700 yards and averaging over 9-yards per carry. To date, Brown has picked up where he left off last season averaging 7+ yards per carry in ’09. We recognize Brown, a future student-athlete at the University of Florida, as this week’s “Cream of the Crop,” our look at one of Georgia’s senior football standouts.

TYRONE

The Sandy Creek High volleyball team returned 6 players from their 2008 State Championship squad. Winning 28 out of their first 33 matches this season has the Fighting Patriots on top again in Class AAAA.

ASHBURN

Turner County High senior Lacey Adkison is this week’s “Academic Athlete of the Week.” Over the years, Adkison has competed for the school’s cheerleading team and has cheered for many Rebels sports programs. With a 3.8 GPA, which ranks her #1 in her graduating class of 86, a large number of folks in Ashburn are cheering for Lacey as she makes her plans on attending college next fall.
