LILBURN - “Prep Sports Plus Classic Playback”In the fall of 2002, the Panthers of Parkview High had 14 seniors on a football squad that won back-to-back state titles. This week’s “Prep Sports Plus Classic Playback” takes us back in time with a look at five of these seniors: Sean Dawkins/FB-S Zeb McKenzie/OL-DL, David Overmyer/OT, Brandon Pilgrim/OT and Joey Sturdivant/OL-DL. As many of you know, Coach Cecil Flowe and the Panthers went on to win their third consecutive state football title later in the 2002 season. MACONLast year, the Westside High football program completed their first ever undefeated regular season. The Seminoles have continued their winning ways in 2009 with victories in their first 6 contests – and, with a new Head Football Coach. BLAIRSVILLEUnion County High seniors Blake Gowder/WR and Kolt Owenby/QB have been one tough combination to beat. Gowder caught 77 passes in ’08, averaging 19 yards per catch with Owenby passing for over 2,000 yards. Both Gowder and Owenby are putting up comparable numbers in ’09. We recognize Gowder and Owenby as this week’s “Cream of the Crop,” our look at two of Georgia’s senior football standouts. COLLEGE PARKAfter a two-year absence from the state semi-finals, Woodward Academy returned to their winning ways in 2008, by capturing the Class AAA State Volleyball Championship - their 8th title overall. The challenge in 2009 is simple - continue the hard work building a winning chemistry along the way to another title. DECATURDecatur High senior Roberta Moore is the Team Captain and the Setter on the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team. Moore’s focus in the classroom is noted with her 4.0 GPA ranking her among the best academically in her graduating class. We recognize Moore as this week’s “Academic Athlete of the Week.” |
